EMPIRICAL RESEARCH

We wanted to know if self-confidence would be an important skill in our day-to-day basis, so we researched throughout the Internet in order to find the various ways in which self-confidence could be helpful. We wanted to supply verified evidence and facts, so all our information is backed up with scientific knowledge and experiments.

Our first area of concern was relating self- confidence with academic studies. According to a study carried out by the university of Iowa, “student confidence influenced performance by as much as 12 per cent”. Therefore, academic performance is highly influenced by self-confidence, it is a strong predictor.

As we may observe in the graph, there is a strong correlation between scores and self-confidence. Whereas, in the study, it was also stated that self-esteem only influenced academic performance by 4%-7%.

Another way that we found very useful in order to increase your self-confidence is stated at Domonique Bertolucci´s book, “The Happiness Code”, where he states that “There’s no faster route to self-confidence than by stepping out of your comfort zone. It sends a message of self-belief to your subconscious that you believe in yourself”. So, one of the most effective and rapid ways to boost self-confidence would be to step out of this conform zone.

However, we had to search for techniques in order to know how to develop this skill. A study carried out by Harvard business school suggests that one of the most effective ways in order to scape from your comfort zone would be to go little by little, don’t try to accelerate the process by taking huge steps at the beginning. “Breaking down your goals into tiny, daily steps is the easiest way to reach those huge successes”.
